Stocks Open Lower, Interest Rates Concern
NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday, hurt by oil prices above $54 a barrel and a jump in bond yields to seven-month highs that sparked concerns of higher interest rates weighing on the economy and corporate profits. The Dow Jones industrial average was down 27.43 points, or 0.25 percent, at 10,885.19. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 2.27 points, or 0.19 percent, at 1,217.16. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was down 1.67 points, or 0.08 percent, at 2,071.88.
