Stocks Look to Open Lower After Rally

By Michael Flaherty NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stock futures pointed to a slightly lower market open on Monday as investors pause after last weeks rally and mull an expected interest rate hike and a weakening dollar. Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (BMY.N: Quote , Profile , Research ) and Medarex Inc. (MEDX.O: Quote , Profile , Research ) said on Monday they formed a development and marketing pact for a new melanoma treatment. Medarex shares jumped $1, or 12 percent, to $9.40 in pre-market trade on the INET electronic brokerage system. Conglomerate General Electric Co. (GE.N: Quote , Profile , Research ) said it sold a 60 percent stake in its pioneering Indian business process outsourcing unit for $500 million. S&P 500 futures were down 2.5 points, below fair value accounting for interest rates, dividends and time to expiration on the contract. Dow Jones industrial index futures fell 20 points, while Nasdaq 100 futures dipped 2 points. "I think it's just a technical pull back. After the strong run up last week, there is bound to be a pause. We're seeing some profit taking this morning, but once we work through that the market should continue to rise," said Edgar Peters, chief investment officer & director, asset allocation at PanAgora Asset Management Inc. Better-than-expected jobs data on Friday helped the Dow Jones industrial average extend its post-election rally for a third session. Last week, the Dow gained 3.6 percent, while the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 each gained about 3.2 percent. The Dow and Nasdaq on Friday closed at their highest levels since June 30. The S&P, which was at its high since March 2002 for the second session in a row, has risen for nine consecutive sessions. With the U.S. presidential election out of the way, investors' attention has shifted to interest rates, economic data and crude oil. Oil prices fell further from record highs on Monday as easing concern about winter supplies prompted big-money hedge funds to switch money away from oil and into other financial markets.     Continued ...
