Medical Insurance
Medical insurance is so vital to modern life that most Americans are covered by some form of medical insurance policy. Medical insurance pays medical expenses that may be incurred during the course of normal human life, including checkups and routine treatment. Surgery is usually covered by medical insurance, with the exception of such elective surgeries as cosmetic procedures. Visits to medical specialists are also covered by medical insurance policies. In most cases, medical insurance policies do not pay 100% of medical expenses. A person buying a medical insurance policy may first choose a specific dollar amount as a deductible. Having a deductible of $500 in a medical insurance policy means that the first $500 in medical costs incurred every year are paid by the policyholder. After the deductible is met, medical insurance will pay for all or part of the remaining treatment.Medical insurance can be sold in several ways. A medical insurance policy can be sold to cover one person, a married or cohabiting couple, or a couple and their children. In addition, there are government medical insurance policies, such as Medicare and Medicaid, which are available in the United States.
