Home Insurance

Home insurance is insurance on the policyholder's home. Primary residences as well as vacation homes can be insured through home insurance. For home insurance purposes, a home can be a freestanding structure, a trailer, a houseboat, an apartment, or any other place where the policyholder may live. A home insurance policy covers damage done to the building itself, by weather or other acts of nature as well as due to vandalism. Home insurance may also cover depreciation of the property, in if the residence is a vehicle such as a trailer. A home insurance policy may cover replacement or repair to any part of a house – such as a roof that is damaged in a hailstorm – or it could recover replacement of the entire home if the entire house is lost to fire or other catastrophe. Home insurance does not necessarily cover the contents of the home. This is especially true if you buy home insurance on an apartment or other high-density dwelling. If you purchase a home insurance policy, make sure you know exactly what is covered. Otherwise you may be in for an ugly surprise if you lose your home and find it is not covered under your home insurance policy.
