Computer Insurance
Computer insurance is one form of insurance that was unheard of until recent years. Now, however, computer insurance policies are being written for personal home computers as well as for big mainframes that are run by large corporations. The computer insurance industry is so big today that there are companies that specialize solely in laptop computer insurance. Policies can range from low-dollar amounts of computer insurance for students, all the way to linked networks of computers in professional organizations. Coverage under computer insurance policies may include replacement or repair in the case of accidental damage, or replacement in the case of theft. Computer insurance may also cover computer peripherals such as printers, scanners, or external speakers or modems. Although computer insurance is commonly sold as extended warranties when computers are purchased, computer owners may save a lot of money by purchasing computer insurance from a company that specializes in computer insurance, and that can give a policy with wider coverage for less money than an extended warranty may offer. For example, an extended warranty will probably not cover any damage caused by a computer virus. But computer insurance policies may cover repair or replacement if a computer becomes damaged through a virus that is introduced into the system.
